Position Overview
The Business Unit Head – EV Bus Segment will be responsible for the overall business performance, strategic direction, revenue growth, market expansion, profitability, and operational excellence of the EV Bus business.
The role will lead the end-to-end business function, including business strategy, sales, dealer development, market intelligence, key account management, pricing, revenue management, team leadership, stakeholder management, and performance monitoring. The incumbent will be expected to build a sustainable EV Bus business by identifying market opportunities, strengthening customer and institutional relationships, developing the dealer network, and achieving agreed business and financial KPIs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Strategy & Leadership
Develop and execute the overall business strategy and annual operating plan for the EV Bus segment in line with organizational objectives.
Define short-term and long-term business goals covering sales volume, revenue, market share, profitability, customer acquisition, and network expansion.
Identify new business opportunities, emerging market segments, geographic opportunities, and potential customer groups.
Develop strategies to establish and strengthen the company's position in the EV Bus market.
Translate organizational objectives into clear business plans, targets, and actionable initiatives for the EV Bus team.
Monitor market dynamics, government policies, regulations, technology trends, competitor movements, and customer requirements affecting the EV Bus industry.
Drive continuous improvement in business processes, customer experience, and operational efficiency.
2. Revenue & Profitability Management
Take overall ownership of business revenue and profitability for the EV Bus segment.
Develop monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue and sales forecasts.
Monitor sales performance against budget, forecast, and business targets.
Develop initiatives to improve revenue realization, contribution margin, and overall business profitability.
Work closely with Finance to monitor gross margin, operating costs, receivables, inventory, working capital, and business profitability.
Evaluate pricing, discounting, financing, and commercial strategies in line with market conditions and company policies.
Identify revenue gaps and develop corrective action plans to achieve business objectives.
3. Sales & Market Development
Develop and execute an effective EV Bus sales strategy across institutional, corporate, government, fleet, tourism, public transportation, and other relevant customer segments.
Lead the achievement of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
Develop territory-wise and segment-wise sales plans based on market potential.
Identify new markets, routes, fleet operators, transport companies, institutions, and strategic customers.
Drive lead generation, pipeline development, conversion, and order booking.
Monitor the complete sales funnel from prospecting → customer engagement → quotation → negotiation → order booking → delivery → payment realization.
Establish strong relationships with major fleet operators, transport entrepreneurs, institutions, government bodies, and other strategic customers.
Ensure appropriate sales coverage and market penetration across key geographical locations.
4. Market Intelligence & Competitive Analysis
Conduct regular analysis of the EV Bus market, customer demand, market size, competitor products, pricing, technology, financing options, and market trends.
Track competitor launches, product specifications, pricing strategies, dealer networks, campaigns, and customer propositions.
Identify market gaps and recommend appropriate products, features, pricing, and business strategies.
Prepare periodic market intelligence reports for senior management.
Develop strategies to respond to changing customer preferences, technology developments, and competitive pressures.
Build strong understanding of the commercial EV ecosystem, including charging infrastructure, fleet economics, government policies, and total cost of ownership.
5. Dealer & Network Development
Develop and execute the dealer/network expansion strategy for the EV Bus segment.
Identify potential dealers, distributors, fleet partners, and strategic business associates.
Evaluate dealer business potential, infrastructure, financial capability, market reach, and operational readiness.
Support dealer appointment, onboarding, target setting, and performance management.
Develop dealer-wise business plans and monitor achievement against agreed targets.
Strengthen dealer capability through regular reviews, training, market support, and business development initiatives.
Identify underperforming areas and implement corrective measures to improve network productivity.
6. Key Account & Institutional Business
Lead strategic engagement with key accounts, fleet operators, government/institutional customers, corporate clients, and large transport operators.
Build long-term relationships with high-value customers and strategic business partners.
Lead commercial negotiations and ensure alignment with organizational policies and profitability objectives.
Develop customized business solutions based on customer fleet requirements, operating conditions, financing, charging, service support, and total cost of ownership.
Track key account opportunities and ensure effective follow-up until successful closure.
Maintain a strong pipeline of strategic and institutional opportunities.
7. Team Leadership & People Management
Lead, mentor, and manage the EV Bus business team to achieve business objectives.
Set clear individual and team KPIs, targets, responsibilities, and performance expectations.
Establish a performance-driven and accountable sales culture.
Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching and development support.
Identify capability gaps and arrange appropriate training and development programs.
Support recruitment, onboarding, succession planning, and retention of key talent.
Ensure effective coordination among Sales, Marketing, After-Sales, Finance, Supply Chain, HR, and other supporting functions.
Build a high-performing team with strong customer orientation and commercial discipline.
8. Stakeholder Management
Develop and maintain strong relationships with OEM partners, dealers, government authorities, financial institutions, fleet operators, suppliers, strategic partners, and internal stakeholders.
Represent the company in important business meetings, negotiations, industry forums, customer meetings, and strategic discussions.
Coordinate with OEM/Chinese principals on product planning, pricing, technical requirements, market feedback, warranty, parts, product improvements, and business planning.
Ensure effective communication between the organization and external business stakeholders.
Escalate critical business issues to senior management with clear analysis and recommended solutions.
9. Product & Business Planning
Work closely with OEM/product teams to understand and communicate product specifications, market positioning, pricing, features, technology, range, battery capacity, charging requirements, and customer value proposition.
Provide market feedback for future product planning and product localization.
Support new product launches and ensure effective market introduction.
Develop product-wise and segment-wise sales plans.
Ensure the sales team is equipped with appropriate product knowledge and competitive positioning.
10. Forecasting, Planning & Reporting
Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and revenue forecasts.
Maintain visibility of sales pipeline, booking, retail, delivery, invoicing, collections, and pending orders.
Develop regular MIS and management reports covering:
Present business performance and strategic updates to senior management.
Ensure data-driven decision-making through effective use of business intelligence and reporting tools.
11. Cross-Functional & Operational Coordination
Coordinate closely with After-Sales, Service, Spare Parts, Warranty, Finance, Supply Chain, Logistics, Marketing, HR, and Administration.
Ensure adequate service readiness and spare-parts availability to support EV Bus sales and customer satisfaction.
Work with the after-sales team to establish appropriate customer support and service infrastructure.
Coordinate vehicle allocation, inventory planning, delivery schedules, and customer commitments.
Resolve cross-functional operational issues affecting customer experience and business performance.
12. Customer Experience & Retention
Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction throughout the customer lifecycle.
Develop strategies for customer retention, repeat business, referrals, and fleet expansion.
Monitor customer feedback, complaints, and market concerns.
Work with relevant departments to ensure timely resolution of customer issues.
Build long-term relationships with fleet and institutional customers to generate recurring business.
13. Compliance & Governance
Ensure all business activities comply with company policies, commercial procedures, applicable laws, regulatory requirements, and ethical standards.
Ensure appropriate documentation and approval processes for commercial transactions.
Maintain discipline in pricing, discounting, credit terms, customer commitments, and dealer operations.
Identify business risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Management, Engineering, Automotive, or a related field.
MBA or Master's degree in Business/Management will be an advantage.
10+ years of relevant experience, preferably in automotive, commercial vehicles, EV, bus, fleet, mobility, or related industries.
Proven experience in business leadership, sales management, revenue generation, market development, and team management.
Strong exposure to B2B, institutional, fleet, dealer, or key-account business.
Experience managing business targets, revenue, profitability, forecasting, and commercial negotiations.
Experience in developing and managing dealer/distributor networks will be highly preferred.
Strong understanding of the automotive/EV ecosystem and commercial vehicle market.
Experience working with OEMs, principals, strategic partners, or large institutional customers will be an advantage.
